Fourth Thursday Film Night: "The Real Dirt on Farmer John"

Event Date:
Thu, 09/23/2010 - 7:30pm - 10:00pm

“The Real Dirt on Farmer John” is the story of Angelic Organics, a CSA farm providing fresh organic produce, educational programs and employment opportunities for people who want to get back to the earth. Presented in collaboration with Transition Denver, the showing is free and open to the public; however, a $5 contribution is suggested.

"The Real Dirt on Farmer John," a film about the flamboyant personality
behind Angelic Organics, a CSA farm providing fresh organic produce,
educational programs and employment opportunities for people who want to get
back to the earth, is the featured movie for September's Film Night at the
EventGallery 910Arts. The showing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., on Thursday,
September 23, at 910 Santa Fe Drive in Denver.

The film is presented in conjunction with "The Art of Dirt," an exhibition
of water technologies and artwork from developing countries in Asia, Africa
and Latin America where Denver-based nonprofit IDE-International Development
Enterprises works to cultivate prosperity. Featured are photographs of IDE
farmers, farms and markets along with installations of functioning water
systems that have been developed as part of IDE's Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation-funded Rural Prosperity Initiative. Paintings and other artwork
from artists in IDE countries are offered for sale and silent auction with
proceeds benefiting IDE. The exhibition runs through September 25.

Representatives of IDE introduce the film, lead a discussion afterwards and
describe a world where where nearly 90 percent of the population has little
or no access to the products and services many of us take for granted and
nearly half do not have regular access to food, clean water or shelter.
Organizers at IDE believe that helping people to sustainably increase their
income will not only address basic needs but also move people towards
lasting prosperity. Low-cost water technologies, access to better seeds and
growing techniques, and better connections to markets are the foundation of
the IDE approach to cultivating prosperity. For more information, please
